Bookkeeping Services For Brisbane Businesses

Search for bookkeeping Brisbane, and you get a wall of hourly rates. Thirty-six dollars an hour here, forty-six there, no lock-in contracts, no separate fee for lodging your BAS. Rates are easy to compare, which is why almost every bookkeeper Brisbane businesses find online leads with one.

An hourly rate tells you what the data entry costs, not whether the file will be worth opening in six months.

That is where small business bookkeeping quietly fails. Transactions get coded, the BAS gets lodged, compliance is met, and the owner still cannot say which jobs made money last quarter or how much of the bank balance is really the ATO’s.

Why do Brisbane businesses outsource their bookkeeping?

Most Brisbane businesses move to outsourced bookkeeping when the owner’s own time becomes the most expensive part of the process. The trigger is usually a BAS deadline, a payroll error, or a letter from the ATO. Outsourced bookkeeping takes the admin off your desk and replaces guesswork with accurate monthly records.

What Our Bookkeeping Covers

What do bookkeeping services include?

Bookkeeping services cover the recording and reconciliation of every transaction a business makes: bank feeds, supplier invoices, customer payments, payroll and superannuation, and the BAS and GST lodgement that follows. Done properly, you end up with records the ATO accepts and a profit and loss statement you can read without an interpreter.

Transaction processing and reconciliation

Bank feeds coded and reconciled monthly in Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks, not in a panic the week before lodgement, with a closing balance that matches your bank.

Accounts payable and accounts receivable

Supplier invoices processed, payments scheduled, and accounts receivable followed up so the cash actually arrives.

Payroll and superannuation

Pay runs, Single Touch Payroll, leave accruals, award interpretation and super lodgement. Clients typically get back three or more hours a week on payroll.

BAS and GST compliance

Prepared and lodged for you as a registered BAS agent.

Catch-up and clean-up work

Books six months or two years behind brought forward, with a written summary of what we found.

Management reporting

A profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow summary each month, with a note on what moved and why.

Any bookkeeping Brisbane provider will offer some version of that list. What changes its value for a small business is the last line.

From Bookkeeping To Financial Control

What is the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?

A bookkeeper records what happened: transactions, reconciliation, payroll and BAS. An accountant uses those records to prepare tax returns and advise on structure and strategy. In Australia, only a registered BAS agent can charge a fee to lodge your BAS, and only a registered tax agent can lodge your income tax return.

The gap between those roles is where businesses lose money. The bookkeeper does the work. The accountant sees the file once a year, so a decision that was needed in October gets discussed the following August.

Financial control closes that gap. At Juce, the people keeping your books sit in the same advisory practice as the accountants and the Virtual CFO team, so your reporting is built by people who already know the file.

In practice: monthly management reporting rather than an annual reckoning, a cash flow view that runs forward instead of backwards, GST reviews that catch miscoded transactions, and a clear read on your financial position before you commit to a new hire. Across our client base, we identify an average of around $3,000 in missed GST per client.

Financial control is not a bigger issue. It is the same bookkeeping, kept accurate enough that your cash flow and your profit actually mean something.

Who We Work With

Our bookkeeping clients turn over between $500,000 and $50 million, across construction and trades, professional services, healthcare, retail, hospitality and not-for-profits. Three situations come up most often.

If your business is under real pressure from an ATO debt rather than simply behind on paperwork, that is a different conversation and one worth having early.

Software, Process And Getting Started

Which accounting software do you work with?

We work in Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks, and we will keep you on the platform you already use unless there is a real reason to move. Where a move makes sense, we handle the Xero or MYOB migration, including bank feeds, payroll setup and opening balances.

Most of our small business bookkeeping Brisbane clients sit in Xero, because the bank feeds and payroll are straightforward, and the reporting is usable without add-ons. MYOB suits heavier inventory or complex award interpretation, and QuickBooks works fine, too. The platform matters far less than whether someone keeps it accurate.

Onboarding takes about two weeks and runs in three steps.

1 We look at the current file.

Your accounting file, the last four BAS lodgements and your payroll setup, so we can tell you what state the records are in.

2 We scope it and quote a fixed fee

What is in, what is out, and a fixed monthly fee, so the invoice does not move with the volume of work.

3 We take over and report

Bank feeds, reconciliation, accounts payable, payroll and compliance move across, and your first reporting pack lands at the end of the cycle.

We process more than 10,000 transactions a month across our client base, so the size of your file is unlikely to be the issue.

Common Questions For Financial Control & Bookkeeping

Brisbane bookkeepers commonly advertise hourly rates from about $36 to $46. We work on a fixed fee each month instead, scoped to your transaction volume, payroll headcount and reporting needs, so the invoice is predictable and you are not billed for asking a question.

Yes, and it is the most common way clients start with us. The ATO expects business records to be kept for at least five years, so catch-up work reaches further back than most owners expect. We bring the file forward, reconcile what we can and flag what we cannot.

Yes. In Australia, anyone charging a fee to prepare or lodge a BAS must be registered as a BAS agent with the Tax Practitioners Board. It matters because an unregistered bookkeeper cannot legally charge for that work, which leaves the compliance risk sitting with you.

You still need a registered tax agent for income tax returns. We can handle that in-house alongside your Virtual CFO reporting, or work with the accountant you already have. Many small business clients keep theirs, and a clean file plus monthly reporting makes that job cheaper.

Yes. Casual payroll with variable hours, penalty rates and several award classifications is normal for our construction, hospitality and retail clients. We manage the pay cycle, report through Single Touch Payroll, track leave, lodge superannuation, and raise any unclear award interpretations promptly.

Our team sits in South East Queensland, and your file is handled by the same people each month, not routed to a shared processing pool. We deliver remotely, which is how we support growing business clients beyond Brisbane, but your bookkeeper is someone you can call by name.
